Alex Smith, Randy Moss, Larry Fitzgerald and several other players and coaches were selected as members in the College Football Hall of Fame for 2024.
Alex Smith marks the first Utah player in program history to be inducted, as he joins former head coach Ike Armstrong as the only two Utes in the hall of fame. Armstrong was inducted back in 1957 for his success.
As for Smith, he has multiple records that are still standing despite his last game as a Ute being played in 2005. He still holds the record for single-season touchdown passes with 32, and his total touchdowns in a season with 42.
His best season saw him earn a first-team All-American nod, while being named as a Heisman Trophy Finalist. He capped off his Utah career with a Fiesta Bowl win over Pitt that saw him named MVP. Smith finished his career as a Ute with 5,203 passing yards, and 47 touchdowns, while also rushing for 1,072 rushing yards, and 15 touchdowns.
In 2005, Alex Smith – The quarterback who led the 2004 Utah football team to a 12-0 record, a No. 4 national ranking and a Fiesta Bowl victory, became Utah’s first-ever No. 1 NFL draft pick, he was chosen by the San Francisco `49ers.
